Atkinson will discuss “The Fate of the Day: The War for America, Fort Ticonderoga to Charleston, 1777-1780,” the second book in his American Revolution trilogy.

He’ll focus on the middle years of the Revolution, including when the British army occupied Newport and the Battle of Rhode Island.

Rebecca Bertrand, who runs the Newport Historical Society, will interview Atkinson during the event.

If you want to go, tickets cost between $60 and $85. Each ticket includes a signed copy of “The Fate of the Day,” which comes out on April 29.

This talk is part of the Newport Historical Society’s Tavern Talks series, which is celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

Atkinson has written seven other history books, including “The British Are Coming,” the first book in his Revolution Trilogy. He’s won several Pulitzer Prizes for his work in history and journalism.
