Helen Hunter

Helen B. Hunter, 92, of Newport, RI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 6, 2025 surrounded by her loving family at the Alpine Nursing Home in Coventry, RI after a short illness. She was the loving wife of the late Michael R. Hunter for over 65 years. Born in Cooperstown, New York, on February 16, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Barbara (McGregor) Dennett. She was predeceased by her siblings Margaret (Dennett) Leskowitz, William Dennett, and Caroline (Dennett) Williams. 

Helen was known for her warmth, sense of humor and her love of family. She had been a dedicated registered nurse for many years supervising in the Maternity Ward at the Newport Hospital. She enjoyed family picnics, reading, crafts, and caring for birds and other wild life that often visited her home. She was predeceased by her daughter Barbara (Hunter) Lieberman and is survived by her sons, Michael Hunter, Patt Jakk, and James Hunter, and her 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. 

Family and friends are invited to gather at Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway, Newport on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 10:00am-12:00 Noon. A service will follow at 12:30pm in the St. Columba Catholic Cemetery Chapel, 465 Brown’s Lane, Middletown, RI.
