Sheffield Chamber Players are set to enchant Newport once again with their upcoming performance in the Puddingstone Music series’ 2025 season.
After a sold-out show at Newport Art Museum in February, the acclaimed ensemble is bringing their talent to Belmont Chapel on March 9 at 3 p.m.
The concert, titled “Très Doux” (meaning “very sweet” in French), promises a delightful contrast between two string quartets: Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 5 in A Major and Maurice Ravel’s String Quartet in F Major. The name of the performance is inspired by the opening movement of Ravel’s piece, setting the tone for an afternoon of musical bliss.
“These early works from two of classical music’s most celebrated composers offer a rich exploration of their evolving styles,” Puddingstone Music says in a press relese. “Beethoven’s Op. 18 No. 5, brimming with energy and classical elegance, will be contrasted with Ravel’s String Quartet, composed in his youth and renowned for its masterful use of impressionistic textures and innovative harmonies. Both works offer a glimpse into the genius of these iconic composers.”
Music lovers can experience this captivating program in the beautifully restored Belmont Chapel.
“By performing diverse repertoire in intimate settings, we profoundly change the way listeners gather, respond to the music, and connect through a shared artistic experience,” Puddingstone says.
The event includes a cash bar and light refreshments, all covered in the ticket price. Doors open at 2:30 p.m., with convenient parking available on the Island Cemetery grounds through the Warner Street entrance.
