Newport police have arrested two men in connection with the reported sexual assault of a 27-year-old man.

Juan Carlos Montepeque-Albizures, 24, and Alvaro Gomez-Alvarez, 33, are facing charges of first-degree sexual assault and conspiracy to commit sexual assault.

The alleged incident took place on Nov. 18 at a Newport residence.

Detectives from Newport’s Criminal Investigative Division identified Montepeque-Albizures as a suspect and arrested him at his home on 124 Broadway. They picked up Gomez-Alvarez at his workplace.

Police searched Montepeque-Albizures’ home and another location at 42 Kingston Ave. to collect potential evidence linked to the assault.

After questioning and processing both suspects at the police station, they were arraigned in Newport District Court. They’re now being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston.
