In a nail-biting clash, Salve Regina University squeaked past the U.S. Coast Guard Academy 34-28 on Saturday at Cadet Memorial Field.

Senior quarterback Jake Stack stole the show for Salve Regina, accounting for all five of the Seahawks’ touchdowns. He threw for four and ran in another, propelling his team to a 4-2 overall record and a perfect 3-0 in conference play.

The Seahawks came out swinging, building a commanding 28-7 lead by halftime. But the Bears (3-3, 1-2 NEWMAC) weren’t going down without a fight. They roared back with three second-half touchdowns, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.

Stack had a field day, completing 20 of 31 passes for 256 yards. His go-to guy was Andre Sullivan, who hauled in five catches for 79 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown strike.

On the ground, Justan Luzzi broke through for Salve Regina, racking up 104 yards on 19 carries. He’s the first Seahawk to crack the 100-yard mark in a game this season.

The Seahawks’ defense held strong, with Avery Arno leading the charge with 13 tackles, five of them solo. Nick Ferrogine came up big with an interception that set the stage for Sullivan’s touchdown late in the second quarter.

This win sets up a heavyweight NEWMAC showdown next Saturday. Salve Regina hosts undefeated Springfield College (6-0, 3-0 NEWMAC) at Toppa Field.

Kickoff is set for noon on October 26.
