October is National Financial Planning Month, and with it, Bank Rhode Island (BankRI), Conexión Latina Newport, and PCF Development are partnering to host a complimentary Spanish-language financial fitness workshop in Newport.
The in-person session will be held on Wednesday, October 23, at Conexión Latina Newport, located at 170 Broadway, beginning at 5 p.m.
The workshop was developed to help participants strengthen their knowledge of financial concepts and managing their money. During the session, attendees will be introduced to various areas of financial management. The first covers banking basics, such as the process of opening a checking and savings account, protecting your credit and understanding a credit score. The session also will focus on managing income, saving, allocating for expenses, and managing debt. It will include a discussion on financial goal setting, and a question and answer session. The workshop will be delivered in Spanish.
The workshop will be led by Dianny Melusky, the Director of Homeownership for PCF Development and a HUD Certified Housing Counselor, as well as BankRI’s Carla Gabriel, AVP, Lincoln Branch Manager. Attendees will also be introduced to Yolanda Macias, Manager and Co-Founder of Conexión Latina Newport.
“Together with our partners, this is the work we do each day. We know how important it is to bring our knowledge and expertise to the community to empower people to make the best financial decisions possible,” said Will Tsonos, BankRI’s President and CEO. “Education is always key, and we look forward to bringing this workshop to our neighbors in Newport.”
“This partnership providing in-person financial education in Spanish is crucial to empowering the Spanish-speaking community in Newport,” said Dianny Melusky of PCF Development. “Many individuals face challenges when it comes to navigating financial systems due to language barriers and limited access or comfort with technology. By offering this workshop, we’re hoping to break down some of those barriers and give individuals the tools they need to thrive.”
