The Choir School of Newport County marks the tenth year of its Concert of Remembrance on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 4 p.m. at the St. George’s School Chapel, 372 Purgatory Road.
The concert assembles the Choir School’s professional choristers, St. George’s Advanced Vocal Ensemble, members of the Trinity Episcopal Church choir, the choirs of St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Burlington, Vermont, and the 20-piece Rhode Island Festival Orchestra, with soloists from Rhode Island, Vermont, New York and Montreal.
The first half includes Douglas Guest’s setting of “For the Fallen,” Parry’s “Jerusalem,” John Ireland’s “Greater Love Hath No Man,” Tavener’s “Song for Athene” and Max Janowski’s “Sim Shalom.” The second half is “A Poet’s Requiem,” a 45-minute work by Peter Stoltzfus Berton, founding executive director of the Choir School, who conducts. The piece sets poetry by M. David Samples and was written in memory of Samples’s partner of 42 years.
An anonymous donor has covered the concert’s costs, so all voluntary admission donations go to humanitarian aid — particularly war relief — through Episcopal Relief and Development. A reception follows in the Memorial Schoolhouse.
