Rhode Island residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste at a collection event in Newport on Saturday, October 19, 2024. The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Eco-Depot will be at Newport Easton’s Beach, 175 Memorial Boulevard, from 8:00 am to 12 noon.
The event is free for Rhode Island residents and offers a safe way to dispose of items such as mercury devices, automotive fluids, fertilizers, pesticides, pool chemicals, and polishes. These items are often labeled with symbols like a skull and crossbones or words like “toxic,” “poison,” “flammable,” or “combustible.”
To participate, residents must schedule an appointment by calling Rhode Island Resource Recovery at 401.942.1430 x3241 or visiting their website at http://www.rirrc.org/. The appointment system helps manage the flow of vehicles and minimize wait times. We try to service 25 cars every 15 minutes—you won’t even need to get out of your vehicle!
