The Middletown Public Library is launching a new service called the “Library of Things,” allowing library card holders to borrow a variety of tools, games, and equipment. The collection includes over 50 items, ranging from practical tools like power washers and leaf blowers to fun items like giant lawn games and a reusable giant check.

The library aims to provide community members with access to useful items they may not want to purchase or store themselves. The collection was inspired by similar “Library of Things” initiatives in other libraries across the US and UK.

The Library of Things offers unique services to the community. Items are organized into categories including Tools & Equipment, Health & Wellness, Fun & Games, and Technology. Borrowing periods vary depending on the item, with most items available for a 7-day loan and some for 21 days.

To borrow an item, patrons must present their Ocean State Libraries card at the Middletown Library’s Main Desk. All items must be checked out and returned at the Main Desk. The library encourages community members to explore the collection and suggests items for future additions through their website: middletownpubliclibraryri.org/library-of-things/ or by emailing the library at staff@middletownlibraryri.org.
