Drivers in Tiverton will experience a weekend road closure as the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) replaces a culvert under Main Road.

The work will be carried out over the weekend of September 27-30, with the road closing at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 27. The road is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. on Monday, September 30, with a detour available for drivers travelling north or south of the closure area.

The detour will take drivers along Bulgarmarsh Road (Route 177) to the north of the closure area, or East Road (Route 179) south of the closure area, to reach Crandall Road (Route 81). Travelers are urged to plan additional travel time as RIDOT expects to create temporary single-lane alternating traffic patterns in the area leading up to the closure, and for two weeks after the closure.

The work to replace the culvert is expected to avoid three months of lane closures, which would be more disruptive to residents and businesses. The project is being carried out by RIDOT in collaboration with RhodeWorks, and is funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
