The League of Women Voters of Newport County is preparing for the Rhode Island General Election by hosting two forums for candidates running for Newport City Council and Newport School Committee.

A Newport City Council Forum, scheduled for September 12, will be held from 6 to 9 pm at Innovate Newport. Rebekah Gomez, executive director of Conexion Latina, will serve as moderator.

A Newport School Committee Forum, scheduled for September 19, will be held from 6 to 9 pm at Innovate Newport. Dr. Jim Ludes, executive director of the Pell Center at Salve University, will serve as moderator.

Early voting for the September 10 primary began August 21, with the November 5 general election early voting starting October 16.
