John Rogers, chief executive and investment officer of Ariel Investments, will speak at a fireside chat with Rhode Island General Treasurer James Diossa on July 19, the office of the treasurer announced today.

Rogers, the first Black-American mutual fund founder in U.S. history, will discuss the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in the investment industry.

“I am honored to moderate a fireside chat with John Rogers,” Diossa said. “John founded the first African American-owned mutual fund company in American history. His commitment to business diversity has showed the importance of creating generational wealth for communities of color while demonstrating how diversity can be a growth driver for companies. I am thankful to John for sharing his expertise and experience with us.”

The fireside chat, titled “A fireside chat with John Rogers,” will take place from noon to 2 p.m. at The Hope Club in Providence. Interested participants may register here.

“A group’s strength comes from its members’ willingness to listen and learn from each other,” said Jamison Miller, president of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society Providence. “The civil exchange of differing ideas, beliefs, and goals form the foundation from which a strong community can grow. The Chartered Financial Analyst Society of Providence is grateful to John W. Rogers and Treasurer Diossa for amplifying the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Come lend your voice to this wonderful conversation; let’s grow together.”
