The Tiverton Public Library has announced a number of programs that adults can enjoy in July as part of our Adult Summer Library Experience.

One-on-One Tech Help

Tech help is available to everyone, regardless of your skill level. Come with specific questions or we can just chat. There is no such thing as a stupid question. Call 401-625-6796 ext. 8 or visit https://tivertonlibrary.org to make an appointment.

Weekly Watercolor Group

Whether you are a seasoned pro or still learning, you are welcome to come and work on your own watercolor painting projects. This is not a class, but a space to paint and socialize with fellow enthusiasts. Must bring your own projects and supplies.

Craft Circle

Knitters, quilters, crafters – whatever you make, come craft with us in the Community Room on the first Wednesday of every month! Socialize with fellow crafters, get project ideas, and share tips and advice. Must bring your own projects and supplies.

Hometown Habitat, featuring Doug Tallamy

You are invited to attend a free screening of the documentary Hometown Habitat – Stories of Bringing Nature Home featuring Douglas Tallamy, Ph.D. whose research, books, and lectures about the use of non-native plants in landscaping sound the alarm about habitat and species loss. The screening will be followed by a brief discussion and tour of the library’s NEW native seed library and native plant demonstration garden.

United Way 211 Van – A Free, Confidential Resource

This is a drop-in, prompt-driven writing group that supports writers of all levels. Membership is free, open to the public, and is appropriate for writers aged 18 and older. We look forward to sharing stories with you!

Meet the Pocassets

Join members of the Pocasset Wampanoag Nation for stories, history, and crafts! The program will include Native American crafts and storytelling and be presented by Tribe Historian Ellie Page, Medicine Woman Donna Raindance Page, Pocasset Chief Edward Gray Fox Page, and Tribal Historic Preservation expert Cora Peirce of the Pocasset Wampanoag Tribe of MA and RI. Fun, learning, and history are woven together in this special activity for the entire family. Open to all ages.

Art House Film Night: Big Eyes

Join us on the third Tuesday of every month for a screening of a contemporary feature film or documentary and discussion focusing on artists, designers, photographers, and other creative fields. Presented in partnership with the Tiverton Arts Council. This month, we will watch and discuss the film Big Eyes (2014; PG-13; 1h, 46min), a drama about the awakening of painter Margaret Keane, her phenomenal success in the 1950s, and the subsequent legal difficulties she had with her husband, who claimed credit for her works in the 1960s. Popcorn and drinks will be provided.

All Ages Crafternoon: Re-Tree Ornaments

Join us once a month for some fun and creativity. This month, we’re hosting a special, all ages, “Christmas in July” craft! Drop in between 1:00 and 3:00pm to make holiday ornaments out of recycled materials and leftover craft supplies. Make one for yourself to take home and one for the library’s entry to the Re-Tree Exhibition at Tiverton Four Corners this winter.

Movie Night: The Boys in the Boat

Join us for a free movie, popcorn, and drinks every month. This month, we will get in the Olympic spirit with a screening of The Boys in the Boat (2023; Rated PG-13; 2h 3m). A 1930s-set story centered on the University of Washington’s rowing team, from their Depression-era beginnings to winning gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Based on The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown.
