The Newport Police Department announced today the following traffic detour plan for Audrain’s Newport Concours Tour d’Elegance, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 5th.

“On Saturday, October 5, 2019 Audrain’s Newport Concours Tour d ’Elegance will take place in the City of Newport. The day begins with the Tour d’ Elegance parade of cars leaving Jamestown at approximately 7:45 am and traveling over the Pell Bridge. The cars will then travel southbound on Farewell, southbound on Americas Cup Ave, southbound on lower Thames Street, westbound onto Wellington Ave, southbound on Halidon Ave, onto Harrison Ave and into Fort Adams where they will stop for a short period of time during the “Cars & Coffee” event. The Tour with then depart and traveling back onto Harrison Ave, to Ridge Road, to Castle Hill Rd, traveling all the way around Ocean Ave to northbound on Bellevue Ave. The Tour will then turn eastbound onto Memorial Blvd and head into Middletown to the area of Second Beach and turn around and return via Memorial Blvd and then turn left onto Bellevue Ave, where the road will be closed. Bellevue Ave will be closed to traffic from 10am – 1pm.

Bellevue Ave will be closed only from Williams Street to Bowery St. All northbound traffic will be detoured onto East Bowery Street, Freebody Street, and onto Memorial Blvd. Southbound traffic will be detoured on Williams Street, to King Street, to Bowery Street, and back on Bellevue Ave southbound. Trucks and buses will be allowed and are expected to follow this detour. Access to Bellevue Gardens will be via Jones Street. Access to Bellevue Plaza will be via East Bowery St. Numerous police officers will be on hand for traffic control. Bellevue Ave is expected to be fully open at 1pm. There will be “NO PARKING” on King Street and Freebody Street during the road closure to accommodate the detour.

We expect very heavy traffic in the entire city that day, October 5th, with the Tour d’Elegance car parade, Cars & Coffee at Fort Adams 7:30-10am, Festa Italiana in Touro Park, Salve Regina home football game as well as parents weekend. The cruise ship Queen Mary 2 will be also visiting for the day resulting in the addition of numerous tour buses and pedestrians”.

Street Closure Planned for Concours Tour d’Elegance

Participants will then follow a southbound course on Farewell Street to Americas Cup Avenue, and Lower Thames Street before turning westbound onto Wellington Avenue, southbound on Halidon Avenue, onto Harrison Avenue and into Fort Adams where they will stop for a short period of time during the “Cars & Coffee” event.

The Tour with then depart and traveling back onto Harrison Avenue, to Ridge Road, to Castle Hill Road, traveling all the way around Ocean Avenue before heading northbound on Bellevue Avenue. Motorists are advised that a small section of Bellevue Avenue, from William Street to Bowery Street, will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
