The Rhode Island Department of State is warning voters about a text message that claims to be about voter registration and asks recipients to confirm their identity for their voter record.

The department’s Elections Division said the text is not affiliated with the state and was not authorized by it, and urged people to be cautious with messages from unknown numbers.

Anyone with questions about their voter record or registration can reach the Elections Division at 401-222-2340 or elections@sos.ri.gov, or check vote.ri.gov. The attorney general’s office keeps resources on identifying scams at riag.ri.gov/scams.
