Media Sales Associate

As a Media Sales Associate for What’sUpNewp and What’sUpRhodeIsland you’ll strategically target active and prospective businesses to advertise on our online platforms, radio programming, and podcasts.

Developing partnerships and sponsorships with clients are also among the responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will be able to develop strong relationships and generate new business throughout Rhode Island.

Compensation includes an aggressive commission plan and plenty of opportunities to grow with our digital company.

What’sUpNewp and What’sUpRhodeIsland, your online source for what’s happening, new and to do in Newport and in Rhode Island, is looking for freelance writers with experience covering news, entertainment, and lifestyle.

The right candidate should be able to create shareable, conversation-driving content in a fast-paced environment.

Qualified candidates should have experience pitching, writing and reporting on news, lifestyle or entertainment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Write smart, engaging and original stories with an eye for content that readers will be inspired to share and discuss.
  • Pitch and create accurate content with appropriate sources.


  • Strong content judgment and editing.
  • A love of news, lifestyle, entertainment and Rhode Island content.
  • An approachable point of view.
  • An understanding of what readers want or what readers need to know about.
  • A strong background in responding to breaking news with speed and accuracy.
  • A proven track record of creating high-performing trending content in a fast-paced environment
