The Busking @ Bowen’s Fall Series will return for its third year at Bowen’s Wharf to welcome visitors and entertain local residents during the autumn season.   In one of the highest foot-traffic areas in Newport, this “busking” or street performance concept is a time-tested cultural tradition in which performing artists bare their souls and connect with passers by.

During four international tours as a musician on luxury cruise lines, series organizer Aaron Abrahamson Cote noticed that port cities across the globe featured a welcoming committee of street performers showcasing the musical culture of the local community.  Cote originally introduced the Busking @ Bowen’s series during Newport BridgeFest, where it has thrived for five years.

The 2017 series features 10 artists incorporating folk, jazz and island music over 24 dates that coincide with Bowen’s annual Wooden Boat Show and Columbus Day Sidewalk Sales. The series will feature Atwater Donnelly, Lois Vaughan, Panoramic View, Ilana Katz Katz, Timmy May & Friends, Clay Nordhill Duo, Improm2, and will introduce new artists including Hawaiian entertainer Guy Kahokulani Imoto, Collin Larkin Trio, and Jonathan Martin.

Performances will be held from 11 AM – 2 PM on a variety of dates ranging from September 8 to October 22.  The events lead up to the 27th Annual Bowen’s Seafood Festival featuring more live music on October 14 and 15. More information, including full artist lineup and dates, is available at www.BowensWharf.com or by calling Bowen’s Wharf Pilot House at (401) 849-3478.

Founded in the 1740s, Bowen’s Wharf is the anchor of the Newport waterfront. Brick walks, granite quays, and 18th-century commercial wharf buildings bring you back to Newport’s earliest beginnings as a thriving seaport in one of the finest natural harbors in New England.

Presented with support from Bank Newport, performances are free, and family friendly.
