Sara “Sally” Brown, 74 of Middletown, a longtime resident of the Fifth Ward passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2017 on her own terms just as she lived her life.  She was the daughter of the late William “Wiggy” and Bridget “Bridie” (Enright) Brown.

Sally attended St. Catherine’s Academy and Salve Regina where she graduated with a degree in Education.  She taught Special Education at Leary School in Virginia and Aseltine School in San Diego.  Sally also bartended around San Diego before returning home to Newport.  She then worked for the James L. Maher Center, Edgehill Newport and then finished her career at her family’s business TJ Brown Landscaping.

Sally had a passion for traveling and over the years visited the Middle East, Africa and Europe.  Her fondest memories were of Ireland and Istanbul where she loved meeting new people.

Sally leaves behind Timothy and Karen (Mahanke), Eileen Brown and Jane Duffy, all of Newport.  She also leaves behind 6 nieces and nephews and several godchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Breast Cancer Foundation, 10400 Little Patuxent Parkway, Suite 480, Columbia, MD 21044 or to Beacon Hospice, 1130 Ten Rod Road, Suite C104, North Kingstown, RI 02852.
