Mount HOpe Bridge

The first-ever Mt. Hope Bridge 5K will take place this Saturday, August 12th. The event, which was capped at 850 runners and walkers, sold out on Tuesday night.

The race will start at 7:30 AM and will give runners and walkers the unique opportunity of crossing Mt. Hope Bay by foot on the historic Mt. Hope Bridge. Participants will be shuttled from designated parking at Roger Williams University in Bristol to the race start in Portsmouth on Saturday morning.

In addition to Century 21 Topsail Realty as title sponsor, the Topsail Realty Mt. Hope Bridge 5K will have four Gold Sponsors: Slepkow, Slepkow and Associates, Inc., A Jour Jewelry, Sunshine Fuels and Energy Services, and Gil’s Appliances.

After the event, local Bristol restaurants Judge Roy Bean Saloon and Gillary’s Taphouse Restaurant will be opening at 8 am to welcome hungry runners, walkers and their supporters for breakfast and lunch fare. Both restaurants are located on Thames Street in Bristol.

The Topsail Realty Mt. Hope Bridge 5K is hosted by the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority Foundation and produced by Gray Matter Marketing. 100% of net proceeds benefit the Rotary Club of Bristol and their partner charities.

One lane of traffic will remain open on the Mt. Hope Bridge throughout the event, controlled by the Bristol, Portsmouth and State Police. All participants will be in the right-hand lane from Portsmouth to Bristol and will be off the bridge by 8:00 a.m.

The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) has provided the following advisory for the Mount Hope Bridge.

On Saturday, August 12, 2017 The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority Foundation will host the inaugural Century 21 Topsail Realty Mount Hope 5k. The race will provide runners and walkers the unique opportunity of crossing Mount Hope Bay by foot on the historic Mount Hope Bridge. The race is expected to have 850 participants and 100% of net proceeds will benefit the Bristol Rotary and their partner charities.

Due to the race there will be a partial closure of the Mount Hope Bridge. Starting at 7:30 a.m., for approximately 30 minutes, the northbound lane of the Mount Hope Bridge will be closed. A police detail will be on premise to alternate travel utilizing a single lane. This alternating pattern will cause delays until around 8:00 a.m.

Early morning motorists in the Bristol and Portsmouth area should be prepared for slight delays traveling over the Mount Hope Bridge on Saturday, August 12 starting at 7:30 a.m. RITBA is asking motorists to plan commutes accordingly; expect delays and allow extra travel time.
