Newport Family & Cosmetic Dentistry will open its Broadway office on Wednesday, Nov. 11, to provide free dental care to veterans, the fifth year the practice has run the clinic.
The office at 136 Broadway will see patients from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with room for roughly 30 appointments, 15 in the morning and 15 in the afternoon. Services include exams, X-rays, cleanings, fillings and basic extractions, depending on what can safely be done in a visit. Veterans needing more extensive work can schedule follow-up treatment afterward.
Appointments are required and can be made at 401-250-2005, a dedicated line for the clinic. There’s no deadline to book, and no proof of service or insurance is needed — the practice is running it on the honor system, open to all U.S. veterans. Limited walk-in slots may be available if there’s capacity, but aren’t guaranteed.
Two dentists, two hygienists, two dental assistants and two front office staff are volunteering, along with high school student volunteers.
“Veterans Day is an opportunity for us to do more than express our gratitude — it is a day for our team to put that gratitude into action,” said Dr. Nate Tilman, who founded the practice and is a Navy veteran.
Last year the clinic treated 18 veterans and provided $10,979 in donated care. The practice has averaged 15 to 25 patients a year.
