On Thursday, May 11, 2017 the Newport County YMCA will celebrate their generous and supportive donors at the Newport Yacht Club.

The Highlight of the evening will be keynote speaker Rebecca Kowalski. Rebecca is the mother of Chase Kowalski and the founder of Race4Chase. According to the CMAK (Chase Michael Anthony Kowalski) Sandy Hook Memorial Foundation, Chase Kowalski was an amazing son, brother, and friend who was taken from us on 12/14/12 in the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. Chase’s heart was filled with love and he touched all of the people that he came into contact. He loved sports of all kinds and had an incredibly competitive spirit. In fact, Chase began running competitively at age 2 in track races. At age 6, Chase asked to be entered into his first triathlon – in his first ever competition, he took on the field and won his age group! Rebecca’s vision is ”to turn tragedy into triumph by healing and strengthening our families and communities”.

The Kowalski family wanted to capture Chase’s competitive spirit and vitality in creating a charity in his honor with a focus on health and wellness for children and their families. The CMAK Sandy Hook Memorial Foundation has pursued programs and initiatives that encourage personal improvement, healthy lifestyles and strong family and communities. This year the Newport County YMCA will take part in their inaugural Race4Chase Program. A 6 week program for children 6-12 years old training to compete in a triathlon on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Fort Adams. Newport County YMCA, CEO, Mike Miller, has said “Race4Chase is a program the Y can get behind since its mission mirrors the Y’s values and purpose.”

Financial assistance keeps the Y available for kids and families who need us most. We count on the generosity of our members and community to help people of all ages and from all walks of life be more healthy, confident, connected and secure. When you give to the Y’s Community Support Campaign, your gift will have a meaningful, enduring impact right in your own neighborhood.
The Y looks forward to thanking and honoring their major donors. Without their support programs such as the Special Olympics, Prescribe the Y, scholarships for summer camp and programs such as Race4Chase would not be possible.
