Debuting this Memorial Day Weekend, Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina will unveil Scarpetta, a critically acclaimed modern Italian restaurant with locations in Las Vegas, Montauk and Philadelphia; The Pineapple Club (an upgraded Pineapples by the Bay), bedecked in day beds and a splash-worthy restaurant and bar surrounding the Gurney’s pool; a refreshed lobby; and 257 new guest rooms.
“Newport is an incredible year-round destination, and we’re excited to become part of the community with the new Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina,” said George Filopoulos, owner of Gurney’s Newport, in a previousstatement to What’sUpNewp. “The authenticity of a classic New England getaway will be brought to life on-site in the design, bespoke programming and culinary offerings, which will create an engaging lifestyle experience for guests.”
Filopoulos, President of Metrovest Equities Inc. of New York City and owner of Gurney’s Inn and Residences, a popular summer destination in Montauk, New York, purchased the former Hyatt Regency & Spa from Amstar back in January 2017.
Gurney’s summarizes The Pineapple Clubon their website as,“Open May through September, the former iconic Pineapples has been transformed into the ideal place to sip, swim & relax. Whether enjoying a meal at our waterfront restaurant or a poolside cabana, The Pineapple Club is an incomparable resort destination.”
Scarpetta is described as, “Downtown Manhattan meets Newport at Scarpetta, a waterfront outpost of the iconic Italian restaurant. A new 22-slip marina is nearing completion on the northeastern part of the island and is scheduled to opensoon.
