The Newport County YMCA invites members of the community to attend the 3rd annual Reach Out For Youth Breakfast on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 7:30AM. The event kicks off the 2017 Community Support Campaign and is a chance to come together to support children and families in Newport County. The breakfast features keynote speaker Peter Babcock, retired scout for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and will honor the Newport County Special Olympics Team. The breakfast is FREE to attend.

Peter Babcock is a retired NBA executive, serving as general manager with three franchises; the San Diego Clippers, Denver Nuggets and Atlanta Hawks. He worked in a variety of capacities from scouting to coaching to player personnel with the New Orleans Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers over a 42-year period. In 2007, Babcock was hired by the Cleveland Cavaliers to be a scout and he served in that capacity for ten years finishing with an NBA championship in 2016 and retiring. The Newport County YMCA is delighted to have Peter attend our event to inspire young athletes that they too can achieve greatness.
The Newport County YMCA Special Olympics Team began in 2010 with one sport and one dedicated family. Today, the program has grown to 150 participants and 8 Special Olympics Teams who compete throughout the year in events statewide. The Newport County YMCA will honor the Special Olympics program with the second annual YMCA leadership award for excellence. This award honors leaders in our community who demonstrate the core values of the YMCA; Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Every day, the Newport County YMCA gives our community the support it needs to learn, grow and thrive. From after school programs to character development, from swimming to gymnastics, from adapted physical activities to obesity prevention, everything we do helps strengthen our neighborhood and the people who live here. Every day, our community faces new challenges that create a greater need for the work we do, and we need your help to do it. The Newport County YMCA Community Support Campaign provides programs and services to those who need it most and helps us in making our community happier, healthier and safer.
