Thomas Richard Sherman, 62, of Newport, RI, passed away on February 13th, 2017 in Newport Hospital after succumbing to illness and heart failure.

Tom was born in Fall River, MA to Thomas and Gwendolyn (Curran) Sherman on February 11th 1955. He was an accomplished pitcher at Somerset High School, graduating in 1973. He lived in Dartmouth MA with his family for 20 years, then Singer Island, Florida, before residing in Newport permanently. He was also a long-time patron of Newport Marina. Tom was a successful businessman, working for Anderson Little and then The Lodge at Harvard Square apparel companies. Tom became CEO of The Lodge in his early 30’s, eventually owning and operating this business at age 37. He then owned and managed Stephen Charles Holdings, with real estate holdings in Fall River, Taunton, and Berkeley Massachusetts. Tom was a loving and proud father, and happiest on his boat with family and friends cruising the waters of Narragansett Bay, Buzzards Bay, and Vineyard Sound. Tom was an enthusiastic, tournament-winning fisherman. He was a loving and dutiful son and brother, an amazing friend, and a legendary storyteller.

Tom is survived by his son Christopher Sherman of Medford, MA, from his previous marriage to Sharon (Hall) Lowe. He is also survived by his mother Gwendolyn, and his sisters Cheryl Ricardo and Donna Pacheco. He is preceded in death by his father Thomas, brother Stephen, and son David.

Funeral services will be held at St. Columba’s Chapel, 55 Vaucluse Ave. Middletown, RI on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association, https://donatenow.heart.org.
