At 1:30 p.m., a heavy show snow squall was along a line from near Wellesley to Bellingham in Massachusetts and Foster Rhode Island to just north of Hartford Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service. This snow squall will

“This snow squall will briefly reduce visibilities to less than a quarter of a mile and produce a quick coating of snow. Major highways that could be impacted across eastern Massachusetts, northern Rhode Island and northern Connecticut include route 128, I-95, routes 146 and I-295 in Rhode Island, and both I-91 and I-84 in northern Connecticut. Drivers should be prepared to immediately slow down at first sight of any squalls. Another briefly heavy snow squall will move across the greater Springfield area between 2 and 3 PM,” the National Weather Service shared in an alert at 1:43 p.m. on Friday.

The Special Weather Statement, which is in effect from 1:43 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, covers Newport, all of Rhode Island and the following areas;
