The following information has been provided by the Newport Police Department.
The Newport Police Department is currently investigating a stabbing that occurred this morning, June 13, 2016. An altercation occurred in the area of Farewell Street and Broadway at approximately 0125 hrs. A 24 year old male resident of Portsmouth, Rhode Island suffered several stab wounds and was transferred to Newport Hospital and later transferred to Rhode Island Hospital where he is currently being treated in stable condition. This is an ongoing investigation currently being investigated by members of the Criminal Investigations Division. This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
