Good morning, Newport! 👋  Today is Monday, Sept. 22, the 265th day of 2025. There are 100 days left in the year.

🚨 You need to know

The Nine Central Film Festival will return for its seventh year Oct. 3-4, expanding to two nights at the Jane Pickens Film and Event Center for the first time in the event’s history.

Presented by Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty, the festival will screen 10-15 short films each night, featuring work from local filmmakers of varying experience levels. The lineup includes comedies, documentaries, music videos and experimental films.

“What started as an excuse to make movies with friends and screen them in our backyard has evolved into… well, pretty much the same thing — but now in a theater,” organizers said in promotional materials.

Each evening will feature a different selection of films, with tickets priced at $28.33 per night. The festival accepts submissions through September, with complete lineups to be announced two weeks before the event.

The event maintains its grassroots approach while providing a platform for both emerging and established filmmakers. Organizers describe the festival as continuing to celebrate “the art of filmmaking” in an accessible, community-focused environment.

Tickets are available through the Jane Pickens Film and Event Center. Both screenings begin at 6 p.m.
