Cardines Field

Newport Police and Newport Fire will face each other in a charity softball game at Cardines Field on Friday, Sept. 11, raising money for a first responder memorial planned for Barker Memorial Park.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the game starts at 6. Admission is donation-based, payable in cash or through the Betterworld platform. The evening includes a 50/50 raffle, an online auction, kids’ activities and food. Boston anthem singer Todd Angilly will appear as a special guest.

The two departments say the memorial will honor Newport first responders killed in the line of duty, describing it as a place of quiet reflection and remembrance. It is to be funded through donations.
