A 28-year-old North Kingstown man died in a single-motorcycle crash on Route 1 on Tuesday night, the South Kingstown Police Department said.

Officers responded at about 10:15 p.m. on June 16 to a report of a motorcycle crash on Route 1 northbound, south of Torrey Road. They found a single motorcycle involved in the crash, and the operator, identified as Michael D. Fletcher, died of injuries sustained in the wreck.

A preliminary investigation found that no other vehicles were involved, and investigators determined that Fletcher appears to have lost control of the motorcycle just south of the Tower Hill Fire Station, police said. Speed is believed to have been a contributing factor.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information is asked to contact the South Kingstown Police Department at (401) 783-3321, ext. 5004.
