Newport Children’s Theatre has received a grant from the van Beuren Charitable Foundation to purchase professional theatrical costumes and expand its inventory of period and specialty pieces.

The grant will allow the nonprofit youth theater organization to stage productions featuring up to five costume changes per performer, according to a news release from the organization.

“We are deeply grateful to the van Beuren Charitable Foundation for their commitment to children, families, and the vitality of our community,” said Jennifer Berton, president of the board of directors. “Their support strengthens our program in lasting ways by enriching the artistic experience for our actors while ensuring access to theatre education for a broad and diverse group of young people.”

The van Beuren Charitable Foundation is a Rhode Island-based private family foundation that invests in initiatives strengthening children and youth, community vitality and shared cultural experiences on Aquidneck Island and surrounding communities.

Newport Children’s Theatre said the grant will also help keep tuition affordable and expand access to financial aid.

The new costume resources will be featured in the organization’s upcoming spring production of “Into the Woods,” scheduled for June 5-7 at St. George’s School in Middletown.

Newport Children’s Theatre is led by Artistic Director Tara O’Hare.
