Middletown girls basketball fell to Pilgrim 50-20 in a physical road matchup Friday night at Pilgrim High School.

The Patriots set the tone early, with several jump balls called during an aggressive first quarter as both teams fought for possession. Pilgrim built a commanding 26-6 lead by halftime.

Skylar Hawes led the Patriots with 14 points and 4 rebounds. Madison Turok and Leah Shea each added 9 points, while Maddison Belanger contributed 8 points and 4 rebounds.

Finley Bernard paced Middletown with 5 points, including a three-pointer, along with a rebound and an assist. Sadie Moloney added 4 points for the Islanders.

Middletown showed fight in the second half as Lamaya Gonsalves, Sydney Bogosian and Lorelei Elshant each scored 3 points to fuel a late scoring run. Audrey Ellis chipped in 2 points. But it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.
