Join Tiverton Library for a special screening of the 1927 classic film IT, with LIVE musical accompaniment! (Tiverton Library)

The Tiverton Public Library will host a screening of the 1927 silent film “It” starring Clara Bow on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m., featuring live musical accompaniment by pianist Richard Hughes.

The free event is open to the public and will include movie snacks.

“It” tells the story of Betty Lou, a shopgirl played by Bow, who schemes to catch the attention of Cyrus Waltham, the handsome owner of the department store where she works. When Waltham fails to notice her, Betty Lou hatches a plan involving his best friend and a dinner date at the Ritz.

Hughes, who fell in love with silent cinema as a boy watching Keystone comedies on public television, will provide background on the film before accompanying it on piano. He learned the “mood music” techniques used to score silent films and now travels throughout New England presenting programs at libraries, schools and other venues.

The screening will take place at the Tiverton Public Library, 34 Roosevelt Ave.
