Dear Editor,
In response to the letter to the editor from the League of Women’s
Voters: Uphold democratic process on disc golf decision on 11/21/25:
Letter to the Editor: Uphold democratic process on disc golf decision
We completely agree that the democratic process should be upheld. That
is the exact reason why this topic is being brought back in front of
the town council. Through the democratic process, the council has
every right to do so. What you are arguing is directly contradicting
your mission.
It is the law that residents need to be properly informed of all
minutes and detailed agenda items related to the issues that will be
voted on, otherwise how are they to properly attend and prepare for
such meetings? If the minutes aren’t posted, how can residents be
informed?
Everyone keeps coming at this from the standpoint that the opposition
doesn’t want disc golf for the town and its residents. What is being
missed is that there is a clear desire for the property to be turned
into a money making venture. If it is just for the residents, why 18
holes as opposed to 9? If it is just for the residents, why does it
have to be at Glen Park and not an alternative location? If it is just
for the residents, why are the proponents discussing tournament play
bringing in revenue? Which, by the way, is the only form of play that
would bring the town revenue.
The course isn’t for the residents of Portsmouth and you will see this
if you accurately review the testimony of the proponents. They are
associated with PDGA players and their clear intention is to turn Glen
Park into a tournament destination.
Members of the town council have shown clear bias in favor of this
venture from the onset. This venture isn’t going to come without a
cost to the residents. Have they told you that Glen Park is currently
hayed by Escobars Farm at NO cost to the town. The installation of
disc golf will require the town to take on this cost in addition to
all unknown costs as issues arise.
All anyone is asking is that the town council can be presented with
the facts regarding the impact of disc golf at a mixed use park.
Sincerely,
Preserve the Glen Coalition
