WEST SUSSEX, England – Four-time Formula 1 World Champion Alain Prost reunited with his 1988 McLaren MP4/4 from the Audrain Collection at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, marking the first time since the 1988 season that Prost has driven an MP4/4.
The reunion took place over the weekend as part of celebrations marking 75 years of the Formula 1 World Championship. Prost drove the MP4/4 up the famous Goodwood Hill twice on both Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 13.
Chassis 4, the specific car Prost drove at Goodwood, is the exact machine in which the French driver claimed three Grand Prix victories during the 1988 season at Monaco, France, and Mexico. The car also delivered three additional podium finishes that year.
On Sunday, Chassis 4 was featured as part of a special balcony celebration honoring Prost during the Festival’s landmark Formula 1 anniversary festivities.
The event holds additional significance as Prost celebrates his 70th birthday and marks 40 years since his first World Championship title. Audrain Motorsport organized the reunion as part of the milestone Formula 1 anniversary celebrations at Goodwood.
The McLaren MP4/4 is part of the Audrain Collection, which made the historic reunion possible by bringing the championship-winning car to the West Sussex event. The Newport-based Audrain Automobile Museum collection is comprised of over 160 of the rarest and most remarkable automobiles in history, and houses fully restored vehicles ranging from the beginning of the 20th Century to modern day. The museum is located at 222 Bellevue Ave and operates as both a museum and a collection facility for rare motorsport vehicles.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed, presented by Mastercard, provided the venue for this rare motorsport reunion at Goodwood House in West Sussex, England.
