The Preservation Society of Newport County is bringing history to life for young visitors this summer with two new children’s program series running throughout July and August.
“Traveling Tuesdays” will take children on a journey through different historic properties each week, running every Tuesday from July 8 through August 19 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The program will rotate among various Preservation Society properties, where children will explore history through hands-on crafts and activities tailored to each unique location.
Meanwhile, “Thursdays in the Garden” offers a nature-focused experience at Green Animals Topiary Garden in Portsmouth. Running from July 10 through August 21 at the same morning time slot, this program will immerse children in the outdoor gardens while teaching them about the natural world.
Both programs are designed for children ages 5 to 7 years old and their caregivers, though older and younger siblings are welcome to participate. The activities will take place in the inspiring settings of the Newport Mansions and the renowned topiary garden.
Family-level members of the Preservation Society can participate at no cost, while non-members will pay a small fee to cover materials. All families must register in advance for the programs.
The Preservation Society of Newport County operates 11 historic properties, including seven National Historic Landmarks, representing more than 250 years of American architectural and social development. The nonprofit organization is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and focuses on preserving the area’s historic architecture, landscapes, decorative arts and social history.
Parents and caregivers can register for the programs and find additional information at www.newportmansions.org/events/traveling-tuesdays-thursdays-in-the-garden.
