Portsmouth High School’s varsity baseball team came out on top against Middletown, securing a 7-3 victory on Friday (May 2).

The Patriots started strong, putting three runs on the board in the first inning. Damon Owen kicks things off with a solo homer to left field.

Portsmouth didn’t let up, adding four more runs in the third and fourth innings. Luke Brule stepped up big time, driving in three runs for the team. Owen ended the game with a solid performance, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.

Casey Cord shined for Portsmouth on the mound, striking out nine Middletown batters to earn the win.

Middletown put up a fight, with E. LeVasseur going 1-for-2, including a double and an RBI. G. West and R. Johnson chipped in with an RBI each.

The Patriots showed off their speed on the bases. C. Ruggieri and E. Greenwood each swiped three bags, while A. Amaio added another stolen base to the tally.

Despite the loss, Middletown’s pitchers held their own, limiting Portsmouth to seven hits and nine strikeouts.
