Newport-based Heritage Restaurant Group is expanding its Rhode Island dining portfolio with the acquisition of the James Beard award-winning Olneyville New York System Restaurant. The deal covers both the Providence and Cranston locations of this iconic hot wiener spot, a Rhode Island fixture for nearly 80 years.
Greg Stevens and Stephanie Stevens Turini, the fourth-generation owners, will stay on to ensure a smooth handover. Greg Stevens expressed gratitude to their staff and customers, saying in a press release, “We chose Heritage Restaurant Group because we trust they’ll maintain the family values and traditions that have made Olneyville N.Y. System a favorite dining destination.”
Known for “R.I.’s Best Hot Wieners,” coffee milk, and other local specialties, the restaurant has drawn celebrity visitors including food experts Guy Fieri and Alton Brown, as well as sports star Rob Gronkowski.
Michael Anderson, speaking for Heritage Restaurant Group, shared their excitement about the purchase, saying in a press release, “We’re thrilled to add Olneyville N.Y. System to our collection of wonderful, historic establishments,” he said. “With both locations now part of our group, we’re eager to build on the success of this well-known restaurant.”
The new owners say in a press release that they plan to keep all current staff and maintain the menu that has made the restaurant a community staple.
The Heritage Restaurant Group, through associated legal entities Audrain Hospitality, Heritage Hotel Group, and 1899 LLC, now has (or will soon have) at least the following in its portfolio – A Mano Pizza & Gelato, Audrain Automobile Museum, Audrain Motorsport Clubhouse, Audrain Park Place, Brick Alley Pub, Caleb & Broad, Cluck Truck, Easton’s Beach Concessions, Flo’s Clam Shack, Hilltop Inn, KEEL Vodka, La Costa Lobster Rolls & Tacos, La Forge Casino Restaurant, Newport Craft Brewing & Distilling, Newport Life Magazine, Newport Lobster Company, The Red Parrot, The Reef, Vanderbilt Hotel, Wally’s Weiners, and Wiener Wagon.
