According to a press release posted by the town of Middletown, the Middletown Town Council is set to keep its current leadership, with Paul M. Rodrigues continuing as president and Thomas P. Welch III as vice president.

The newly elected council met on Wednesday at Town Hall for the first time since the November 5 election. They informally chose their leadership team for the upcoming term.

Rodrigues, who has been council president since April 2021, said, “We have a great team, and we’re all committed to doing what’s best for Middletown. I’m thankful for their confidence, and I’ll make sure it’s well-placed.”

The council also informally appointed Peter B. Regan town solicitor, Francis Holbrook Municipal Court judge, and Michael W. Miller Probate Court judge.

Town Clerk Wendy J.W. Marshall reminded everyone that these appointments won’t be official until they’re voted on at the swearing-in ceremony on December 2 at 6 p.m. in Town Hall.

The November 5 election saw all six incumbents re-elected: Rodrigues, Welch, Peter Connerton, Christopher Logan, Dennis Turano, and Barbara VonVillas. They’re joined by newcomer Charlie Roberts, who previously co-chaired the School Building Committee.

Rodrigues added, “We’ve accomplished a lot, but we still have several projects in the works and we’re always looking for new ways to help our residents and businesses. That’s our main focus – supporting our community and local entrepreneurs.”

The council’s leadership selection process follows Section 204 of the town charter, which gives the council the freedom to choose its own leadership team without specific criteria.
