Newport continued its tradition of honoring veterans with a ceremony at City Hall on Monday, November 11, 2024.

The annual Veterans Day event is hosted by American Legion Post 7 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Conover-Leary Post No. 406.

In a social media post following the event, the city expresses its gratitude: “We can’t thank our military service members enough, both past and present.” The city also recognizes the crucial role of military families, calling them “the foundation of our freedoms.”

City Council members Xaykham “Xay” Rexford Khamsyvoravong, Charles Holder, Jeanne-Marie Napolitano, and Lynn Underwood Ceglie were among those present at the ceremony.

This annual observance in Newport marks the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I in 1918, keeping alive the city’s commitment to honoring those who have served in the military.
