Newport County residents are turning out in significant numbers for early voting in the 2024 General Election, with more than a thousand ballots already cast.

On Wednesday, October 16, 11,159 voters across the state participated in early voting, representing a 1.4% voter turnout.

Newport County has seen 1,471 early voters, with 310 voting by mail ballot and 1,161 voting early in person.

The 299 voter turnout in Newport suggests a solid early turnout, as Newport has 13,714 active-status registered voters.

First day voting tallies across Newport County suggest every community is experiencing similar levels of early voting participation.

Early in-person voting continues until 4 p.m. on November 4, giving Newport County residents ample opportunity to cast their ballots before Election Day on November 5.

Eligible voters can find their early voting location online at vote.ri.gov or by contacting their local board of canvassers.

The deadline to request a mail ballot was 4 p.m. on October 15. However, voters who cannot vote in-person can still request an emergency mail ballot from their local board of canvassers.

All mail ballots must be received by the Board of Elections by 8 p.m. on Election Day, November 5, to be counted.

For those planning to vote on Election Day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. across Newport County and the rest of Rhode Island.
