The Jane Pickens Theater & Event Center (the JPT) is bringing various screening and entertainment events to the City by the Sea this Father’s Day Weekend.
The fun begins on Friday with a screening of Buster Keaton’s The Cameraman with Live Musical Score presented live in the event center by Silent Film expert/accompanist Jeff Rapsis.
Then, on Sunday, The JPT is treating dads to free popcorn and a screening of Field of Dreams.
In the spirit of fathers, the fun continues on Tuesday night with a screening of The Godfather Part II: 50th Anniversary featuring free cannolis for patrons from Sardellas.
“From live music and timeless silent films, to popcorn and baseball, to award winning features and treats, this weekend’s lineup is a testament to the fact that there’s always something for everyone at The JPT,” said Alex Whitney, General Manager at The JPT.
Buster Keaton’s The Cameraman with Live Musical Score (Friday, June 14): In this silent classic, photographer Buster (Buster Keaton) meets Sally (Marceline Day), who works as a secretary for the newsreel department at MGM, and falls hard. Trying to win her attention, Buster abandons photography in order to become a news cameraman. Along the way, he goes for a swim (and winds up soaked), becomes embroiled in a Chinatown Tong War, and teams up with a memorable monkey sidekick (the famous Josephine). In spite of his early failures with a motion camera, Sally takes to him as well. However, veteran cameraman Stagg (Harold Goodwin) also fancies Sally, meaning Buster will need to learn how to film quickly before he loses his job. For tickets and more information, click here.
Field of Dreams (Sunday, June 16): When Iowa farmer Ray (Kevin Costner) hears a mysterious voice one night in his cornfield saying “If you build it, he will come,” he feels the need to act. Despite taunts of lunacy, Ray builds a baseball diamond on his land, supported by his wife, Annie (Amy Madigan). Afterward, the ghosts of great players start emerging from the crops to play ball, led by “Shoeless” Joe Jackson. But, as Ray learns, this field of dreams is about much more than bringing former baseball greats out to play. For tickets and more information, click here.
The Godfather Part II: 50th Anniversary (Tuesday, June 18): The compelling sequel to “The Godfather,” contrasting the life of Corleone father and son by using flashbacks to brilliantly weave two tales. Traces the problems of Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) in 1958 as he attempts to expand the family business into Las Vegas, Hollywood and Cuba, and that of a young immigrant Vito Corleone (Robert De Niro) in 1917’s Hell’s Kitchen. Michael survives many misfortunes and Vito is introduced to a life of crime. For tickets and more information, click here.
