The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is currently seeking lifeguards, park rangers, and other seasonal employees. The positions are available for the summer season, which is expected to last from late spring to early fall.
The DEM manages 25 parks, 8 surf beaches, and dozens of other properties that span the state. With only 52 full-time employees managing these areas, the DEM is looking to fill key positions that assist with crowd control, facility security, and customer service.
These positions pay from $17.75 to $20.25 per hour, based on experience and location. The DEM is also offering a one-time $500 sign-on bonus for new lifeguards who receive a full-time job by June 28, 2024. Employees who stay employed until Sept. 2, 2024, are eligible for an additional $500 retention bonus.
In addition to the lifeguard positions, the DEM is also seeking candidates for other seasonal roles, including administrative and clerical work, technical work, and environmental stewardship.
