Girard Galvin, Esquire, a Newport-based attorney and current Assistant City Solicitor for the City of Newport, has started a new law firm. Galvin Law will focus on civil litigation criminal defense.

Mr. Galvin is formerly a partner of Corcoran, Peckham, Hayes & Galvin, P.C. He joined the firm as an associate in 2005 and became partner in 2009. In 2008, he was sworn in as the Assistant City Solicitor for Prosecutions for the City of Newport. Mr. Galvin has recently accepted the role of Assistant City Solicitor for Civil Litigation.

Mr. Galvin, who grew up on Aquidneck Island, is a graduate of Portsmouth High School, magna cum laude graduate of James Madison University and also attended the University of London in London, England. Prior to law school, Girard was employed by the House Armed Services Committee in the United States House of Representatives. He received his law degree from George Mason University School of Law in May 2005. In his final semester of law school, Girard clerked for the United States Senate Judiciary Committee.

Girard and his family have strong ties to the Rhode Island community. He formerly served on the Newport County YMCA Board of Directors (2007-2013), serving as the president of the Board from 2011-2013. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Newport Public Library and is a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.
