Newport, RI – The three-way race for the 2nd Ward Councilor seat on Newport City Council has been narrowed down to two after today’s Statewide Primary.

The top vote-getters, incumbent Lynn Underwood Ceglie and Valerie Larkin, will move on to face off on November 6th in the General Election on November 6th.

The Primary for the 2nd Ward Councilor non-partisan seat was the only local government primary on today’s ballot.

Early numbers aren’t available for how many of the 15,407 registered voters in Newport voted today. There are 781,960 registered voters in Rhode Island as of August 31, according to the Secretary of State. Approximately 145,000 (18%) of those registered voters voted in today’s Statewide Primary.
