To the Editor:

I am pleased to endorse James Dring for Newport City Council at-large. As a single father of three daughters, James understands the challenges families face and the importance of keeping Newport an affordable, welcoming place to live.

James has a proven record of public service, having served as chair of the Planning Board, chair of the Miantonomi Park Commission, and currently as chair of the School Committee. His experience working with colleagues and his dedication to Newport mean he can bring valuable knowledge and leadership to the City Council from day one.

I’ve known James since high school, and what I appreciate most about him is his commitment to putting Newport residents first. He understands the importance of protecting our neighborhood character, preserving our historic heritage, and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly.

James will work to strengthen zoning protections against overdevelopment, preserve public access to our waterfront by extending the Harbor Walk, and ensure that public rights-of-way remain open. He also recognizes that residents should not bear an unfair share of the costs associated with millions of annual visitors. Tourism should contribute more toward the infrastructure and services that make Newport such a special place.

Newport needs leaders who understand our community, respect its history, and are willing to stand up for the people who call it home. I know that James will bring that commitment to City Council.

I encourage Newport voters to support James Dring on or before Nov. 3.

Sincerely,

Kathy Gineo
Newport
