I happily endorse Ellen Pinnock for reelection to Ward One city Councilor. When I wrote about her two years ago, she had a record of working with youth and education and also advocacy for Ward 1 residents. She was already involved in decisions around the bridge property and support for harm-reduction efforts rooted in dignity and compassion.
Now she is now an incumbent with a solid record to stand on, representing the most diverse ward in Newport. Ellen shows up, listens and works to bring voices into City Hall that aren’t always heard, especially children, families and our neighbors who are often overlooked. You could say Ellen brings Ward 1 into City Hall. Housing, one of the very biggest issues, cuts across almost all income levels and urgently requires sensitive, creative, and practical solutions.
Time and time again, I see her on the right side of the issues: the side of the people. She asks hard questions and makes decisions – sometimes very hard decisions – based on people, not politics. I know Ellen is still guided by what she said two years ago: “All Newporters deserve to feel joy, be included and experience wellness”. This city is facing some severe challenges and it is essential that we keep and intelligent, wise, compassionate and strong people like Ellen Pinnock on our city Council to make the right decisions.
Charles F. Pattavina, M.D.
