IYRS School of Technology & Trades is accepting applications through Nov. 15 for the 2026 Glo Tech Scholarship, a professional development award for women working in the marine trades and advanced manufacturing.
The scholarship is open to women 25 and older with at least four years of experience in those fields. The money can go toward an IYRS program or another qualifying professional development opportunity. Applicants describe the training they want funded and explain how it advances their career.
The award honors Gloria Aurora Borrego, whose career in marine systems included work in motorsports, the Whitbread and Volvo Ocean Races, America’s Cup campaigns and Diana Nyad’s swim from Cuba to Florida.
“The marine and manufacturing industries need skilled, innovative leaders, and women remain underrepresented in many technical roles,” said Liz Isdale, IYRS vice president of advancement.
The first recipient, Marie Ostrand of Newport, used the 2025 award to pursue her Yachtmaster certification.
Applications are reviewed by a committee of IYRS leadership and industry representatives. Recipients are asked to submit a written or video testimonial afterward. Details are at iyrs.edu/careers/glo-tech.
