The Tiverton Public Library will hold a grand opening for its new StoryWalk on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
StoryWalk mounts the pages of a children’s picture book on signs along a walking path, so visitors read the story a page at a time as they move through the trail. The concept pairs reading with outdoor activity.
The celebration begins at 11 a.m. with a dedication of the pathway, followed by the library’s first official StoryWalk program, where families can walk the trail together. Bubbles, music, food and children’s activities follow.
The pathway around the library building was designed by Shannon Rozea of Thrive Outside and Joseph James of Eponymous Practice, building on initial concept drawings by David Fierbrand and the Groundswell Design Group.
The project was funded by grants from the Champlin Foundation, the van Beuren Charitable Foundation, Tiverton Power, the John Clarke Trust and the Tiverton Library Foundation.
The event is free and open to all. The library is at 34 Roosevelt Ave.
