Middletown Family Day returns to Second Beach on Sept. 12 (Town of Middletown)

The Middletown Prevention Coalition will host its 17th annual Family Day at Second Beach on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. The event is free, with a rain date of Sunday, Sept. 13.

Activities include a rock climbing wall, bouncy house, inflatable obstacle course, pickleball, old-fashioned games, touch-a-truck, face painting and a balloon artist, plus beachside fire pits. DanceForce will provide music, games and prizes. Attendees are encouraged to bring beach chairs and blankets.

The event grew out of the National Family Day movement launched in 2001 by Columbia University, which promotes practices like regular family meals and shared time together. The coalition points to research showing that young people who feel strongly connected to their families are less likely to engage in risky behaviors.

Saccucci Honda sponsors the event. More information about the coalition is at middletownri.gov/mpc.
