People’s Credit Union will host a free Community Shred Day on Saturday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to noon at its newly relocated Wakefield branch at 703 Kingstown Road.
The event is open to everyone in the community. Residents can bring up to two boxes of sensitive documents — maximum size 24″ x 15″ x 10″ or 55 pounds — for secure destruction by Shred-it using cross-cut shredding technology. The Shred-it team will transfer contents into their receptacles and return empty boxes to owners. Documents suitable for shredding include financial statements, cancelled checks, ATM and credit card receipts, credit card statements, and tax documents.
“Financial and other sensitive information needs to be protected more than ever from identity theft,” said Erine Lewis, head of risk for People’s Credit Union. “We hope that providing this service free of charge will encourage members of the community to join in raising awareness about the importance of secure document disposal.”
